Mar 13, 2026
Mayor Keith Eaton sits down with Dimitrios Mirkopoulos and Coach Stamatis Apostolos of the Florence Football Club to discuss the excitement surrounding the team's second season. Following a successful inaugural year, the club aims to expand youth recreation, provide thrilling soccer entertainment, and drive economic activity in the Town of Florence. The upcoming season promises to be a major event for the local community, with five home games scheduled at Florence High School. The team is deeply rooted in the area, with a roster comprised largely of local talent from Florence and San Tan Valley. By keeping ticket prices affordable ($5) and focusing on a family-friendly atmosphere that includes professional national anthem performances and halftime shows, the club seeks to make game nights a staple of local entertainment . Furthermore, the club is looking to build strong partnerships with local businesses, encouraging visitors to explore historic downtown Florence and patronize restaurants and shops before and after matches.
Beyond just professional entertainment, Florence FC is heavily invested in the future of the town's youth through sports. Coach Apostolos highlighted that the team provides a necessary outlet for youth to stay active, build confidence, and learn socialization skills. The club has ambitious plans to eventually propose a multi-use, weather-controlled athletic facility. This initiative aims to allow youth academy students to train year-round, safe from the Arizona heat, while also serving as a valuable space for town events like the Fourth of July celebrations.
